My name is Brittni Hurff...I am a mother of five. I homeschool, I am a daughter, a sister, and a dance teacher. I am someone’s girlfriend.
On November 13, 2010, I became "The Woman In The Park". On that fateful day, I took a paperback to the park to read and enjoy the weather.
I left there a victim of rape. I hate the word "victim" and I will forever consider myself a "survivor" of rape. A victim means that you are helpless...against the crime and against your healing. A survivor means that you can handle it...you are strong...you are brave. Am I these things? I wasn’t. The first 48 hours I was a mess. Sirens caused me to jump, and to give me false hope. Noises in my home made me afraid that someone had broken in. Nightmares caused me to re-live it and kept me awake for hours. A knock on the door threw me into a panic. Now? It has been a little over a month. I still try to avoid people, I still have bad dreams, and I still don’t like being alone. The change in me comes from the desire to help. [more]

If you recall, back in October, we held a Zumbathon for Judy Baker, a Woodstown resident who is battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Again, we cannot thank everyone enough for their tremendous show of support. All in total, with your help, donations exceeding $6,000 have been raised for Judy.
Editor's Note: I did want to give you an update on Judy's condition. As of the beginning of this month, January, she had still not been able to begin the bone marrow transplant and her cancer did return in her spinal fluid and bone. She had to begin radiation treatments this time, followed by more chemo and then intense physical therapy. Judy is having trouble walking. Judy is committed to fighting as long as she possibly can and the story is far from over. Please keep her in your prayers. She is a brave lady. Click here to learn more about Judy.
Please visit our newest sister site that just went online this month, The Woman of Atlantic County, owned by R. Joseph Owles.
