Where is Your Heart?
by Lolae Joline Lambert
As a child, I remember going to the store and purchasing bags and bags of Valentine cards to give to classmates…They were all shapes and sizes with different messages and sometimes even required assembly. It was fun…carefully selecting the one in the bags that fit the person, signing the cards, and sharing with others. In the early years everyone gave a Valentine to everyone in the class. No one felt left out. [more]
For January's Issue, we featured a brave woman, Brittni Hurff, a victim of a horrible rape in Salem County. Her story is inspirational as she has decided that she will not remain a victim and will instead speak out in an effort to help other women become "survivors" instead of "victims".
"I am a mother of five. I homeschool, I am a daughter, a sister, and a dance teacher. I am someone’s girlfriend. I am also known as 'The Woman In The Park'..." [more]

In December of 2010, we celebrated our 1st Anniversary of The Women of Salem County. With over 1,100 Facebook fans and a tremendous amount of traffic to the magazine over year - not to mention the $10,000+ dollars raised and donated to charity or charitable causes in our name due to the efforts of Salem County's women in just under one year, we were well on our well to becoming a very established magazine in the county.
We had a special edition of the magazine, our largest ever, to celebrate the anniversary with many new articles and several from previous editions - 27 all in total (if you count recipes). We also reformatted the magazine a bit to make it more attractive and to better promote our sponsors. Click here to read our December 2010 Anniversary issue!
This month, our featured woman is Motorcycle Mama! Check out her latest article and be sure to read all of her past articles as well if you missed any of them!
Thanks Mama for contributing to our magazine and for helping to promote a positive image of women motorcyclists and in fact of all motorcyclists in general!
A great big thanks to everyone who participated in last month's "Shake Your Booty For Judy Zumbathon"! We want to especially thank Debbie Pettit from Lady Fitness Health Spa and the ladies from her gym for putting this benefit together and Judy's coffee club girls for all the work they did behind the scenes. We had a great turn out and raised a lot of money, which will hopefully make things just a little bit easier for Judy. Click here to watch a slideshow of the event! For the month of October, we honored Judy Baker (pictured on the right), a Woodstown resident diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Judy is a personal friend of our Editors, Christine DeGraff and our sponsor, Debbie Pettit of Lady Fitness Health Spa. Christine, Debbie and a group of Judy's "coffee club" friends teamed up and held a "Shake Your Booty For Judy ZUMBATHON" sponsored by Lady Fitness Health Spa to raise money to help her with her medical and household bills. We also wrote some "Letters to Judy" and many of our readers wrote in and we know you all had her in your thoughts and prayers. Click here to read October's issue!

Due to the popularity of The Women of Salem County, we decided to expand to both Gloucester and Cumberland Counties. In July, we introduced Owner/Editor Esther Lankitus from our newest 'sister magazine', The Women of Cumberland County, as she launched her inaugural issue, and Owner/Editor June Swords Bower, already a pro with her 3rd issue of The Women of Gloucester County.
In June, we asked our readers to nominate a special man in their life to be honored for Father's Day. We received several great letters and we posted them all to our Facebook page, and we featured the two that we felt really stood out: "My Hero and the man my kids call Dad" and "My Husband Is My Hero".

Last year at the Salem County Chamber of Commerce Women's Leadership Symposium, Hon. Gilda Gill, Salem County Clerk, gave an interesting account of several women that are a part of Salem County's history. February 2010 - Go Red for Women!
To raise awareness in support of the fight against heart disease, we encouraged women to wear red on Feb 12th. A group of local women braved the snow and gathered at Lady Fitness to have a group photo taken by Dee Marie Photography.
