Community Outreach

New Hope Counseling offers help for victims of sexual abuse, incest, and rape to help with the many difficulties victims often experience, such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-injurious behaviors, relationship problems, shame, and sexual dysfunctions. In addition, victims may need help dealing with spiritual after effects, such as feeling unworthy or alienated from God or having a deep distrust of God. The Salem County Commission on Women was established by Resolution in 1984 to serve as an Advisory Commission to the Freeholder Board on educating the public about women’s issues and problems while striving to improve the relations between women and county government. Salem County's Habitat for Humanity is the oldest Habitat affiliate in New Jersey and is still just as or even more committed to building simple, decent housing and to helping area families become homeowners. One of our Featured Salem County Women Alumni, Sue Ann Leighty, is the Executive Director and is already making a difference by holding a successful, first annual "Women Build" event in Salem County. Salem County's Meals on Wheels Executive Director, Peg Marshall, is another member of our Featured Salem County Women Alumni. Meals on Wheels of Salem County, New Jersey delivers nutritious meals to elderly and disabled county residents who cannot shop for or prepare meals on their own because of physical or mental disabilities. Click here to learn more about Salem County NJ's Meals on Wheels program.


Salem County Women's Services offers help for women who are suffering from domestic violence. Services include an emergency shelter, individual counseling, support groups, legal referrals and court preparation, parent skills training, educational materials, networking/information and referral, and an Alternatives to Violence Group for batterers.
