Ceil Smith, Publisher, Today's Sunbeam

Ceil SmithOver the years, Ceil Smith has worked hard to make a difference in Salem County and the many programs she has either started or has had a part in starting continue to provide great benefits to our community. Ceil developed the Partners of Salem County Program with six of the largest companies in the county. This program has raised and contributed over $400,000 in scholarship monies. The Partners of Salem County Program also started the largest prayer breakfast in the county and is responsible for beginning a Sports Hall of Fame in Salem County, as well as for partnering with the Prosecutor’s Office with a program called "Turn off the Violence". The Partners of Salem County Program also supports local agencies with their fund raising efforts.

Ceil Smith has been with South Jersey Newspaper’s for twenty three years. In her current position as Publisher of Today’s Sunbeam, she is responsible for overseeing the Editorial and Circulation department and is directly responsible for advertising revenue.

Some of Ceil’s notable accomplishments include:

  • In partnership with the United Way and the Salem County Chamber of Commerce started "The Spirit Awards" to honor volunteers in the community. 
  • With the Chamber of Commerce began the first Women’s Symposium in the County. 
  • Together with the Salem County Freeholders started "The Best of Salem County" awards to honor the small businesses in Salem County.
  • Together with the Alzheimer’s Association, held the first Town Meeting and Educational Forum in Salem County.

Ceil belongs to many organizations and committees and has numerous honors and awards. In 2007, she received the Commission on Women Achievement Award.

Ceil has been married for 42 years to Jim Smith. Together, they have two sons, Tom and his wife Karen, and Jim and his wife Tina. They have five grandchildren, Madison, Brogan, Danny, Abigail, and Shamus.
