The Week Before Christmas

It was the week before Christmas and all through the house,
Not a present was wrapped, not even a blouse.
All the stores had been filled with a push, shove, and snare
In the hopes that a bargain soon would be theirs.

Mom is all frazzled and Dad’s in a daze,
Wondering if he has enough money to pay...
For the presents, the dinners, the parties, the bling...
Geez, even Mom wants a new diamond ring!

When out in the yard there was a loud sounding clatter
The Manger, the Wise Men, the Tree all went splatter!
Oh drabs! Oh darn! Oh! What’s the matter!
Our dear, Dad has fallen off of his ladder.

To hospital we go fast as the new van will take us
Nothing was broken, but this event sure did shake us
Safely back home Mom and Dad sit in their chairs
Wondering just how they even got there.

One call to the family and quick as a blink
The relatives arrive in a hurry and think
Grandma got cooking, Grandpa fixed the tree
I and my Mom did the wrapping you see.
The aunts and the uncles set up the yard lights
Soon all was done and it all was done right.

The lesson to learn here is not new at all
When family works together the job is real small
I am happy to tell you, it was a great site
Here’s wishing your Christmas will be happy and bright!
